TOP 10 MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIES OF 2020 *ORIGINAL LIST*

Hello everyone and welcome to my TOP 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020 list. 2019 was a pretty amazing year and with all the variety that came out that touched my tastes, I couldn't see how another year could top it for me. Well this year does look pretty darn great and it was hard to narrow down to 10, but I'm sticking with my guns and pinned it between which ones I would rather watch over others. All that said here we go:

HONORABLE MENTIONS

#10
Considering we’re living in a day and age where beloved franchises are reinvigorated for new audiences as well as playing on the nostalgia (i.e. Star WarsJurassic ParkBlade Runner) We’re finally getting that same treatment with Ghostbusters. Well...it happened in 2016, but fans weren’t overly fond of it considering one of the reasons was because it was a completely modernized reboot and not a heartfelt continuation of the beloved franchise. This time around we’re seeing a new vision that’s still in the same spirit as the first two and continuing the story of those movies. This looks like a fun new take on the franchise with some mystical Stranger Things vibes (also considering Finn Wolfhard is in it), but it looks to be something exciting and interesting in the same world we know and love. With the original cast returning and with it being directed by none other than Jason Reitman, the son of the OG Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, it’s hard not to go find a can of Ecto Cooler and have a good time at the movies.

The Kingsman series is probably one of my new favorite franchises since it brings insane and inventive features to the espionage genre. But with this being a prequel set in a WWI era that’ll broaden the lore of the franchise is something I’m so pumped to explore in spite of it not being a Kingsman 3 taking place after The Golden Circle. But heck, this looks to be an excellent tie-over.

The MCU is quite possibly my favorite non-Star Wars franchise right now and as someone who’s somewhat familiar with some of the lore set up having read only the Gaiman and Romita Jr run, I cannot wait to see how it’ll be pulled off as a film and maybe introduce certain aspects and characters I’ve never experienced in the Marvel Universe before that’ll dive me back into even more of the source material.

I loved the Halloween movie released back in 2018 for I felt it had the same roots as the original 1978 classic, which made it highly enjoyable for me. But to think Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends will cap off what is going to be a new definitive 4-part story in the Halloween franchise is something I never thought I’d see, but since we were off to a great start with the 2018 film, I couldn’t be more ecstatic to see how the Boogeyman will make his return once again.

I’ve been a big fan of Disney animated movies all my life and they have brought to life some of the most well-regarded pieces of fantasy cinema of all time. There hasn’t been official footage released to the public as of yet, but that piece of concept art tells me all I need to know about the outstanding ride I’ll be in for. All I’ll say is that I cannot wait to see how the talent behind Walt Disney Animation Studios will showcase us such a beautiful high-fantasy story and tell it to us in a way that’ll leave an emotional resonance.

Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors of all time and, to me, he has yet to make a bad film. His new movie is a psychological thriller, so his first straight-up horror film and I am so psyched considering I’ve seen moments in his previous films that had horror elements and I thought how cool would it be to see him take that high energy he infuses in the darker and more insane action of his movies and implements them into a full-fledged horror movie? I can’t wait to see what he has in store to tackle a new genre that will more than likely get under my skin. I mean have you seen the creative kills in Hot Fuzz (poor Leslie Tiller)?

PIXAR has made some of my favorite movies of all time and to see them bend my favorite genre of fantasy in a way to make it feel new and different is something I’m so happy to see them do to utilize more of that incredible creative vision. Soul looks incredible, but I’m more excited to see Onward considering we saw more of it and the fact that it touches my love of fantasy and coming-of-age stories, it's something I’m just so excited to see PIXAR do and bring to life in such a vibrant, special, and delightful way.

The Bill and Ted franchise is "most triumphant", so the idea that we're getting a PART 3 with Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprising their roles is honestly something I personally never thought I would get to experience in this generation. I'm sure it will be goofy, cheesy, and all sorts of weird, but that's what makes the Bill and Ted movies so memorable and great. The chemistry these two characters have will be a lot of fun and to see what kind of crazy sci-fi adventure they'll wind themselves up in, will be the pinnacle of entertainment. The way their social media has been campaigning this movie with every tweet and post counting down the movie's release date just gets me more and more excited. I can't wait!

I'm not at all familiar with this franchise, but as a lover of sci-fi and with Denis Villeneuve at the helm, who directed two of the greatest sci-fi films in recent years in my humble opinion, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, this movie is honestly bound for greatness. The cast that's lined up looks superb and the fact that Villeneuve brilliantly balances out the sci-fi elements with great character development as we saw in his previous work, this could no doubt become of the greats in sci-fi cinema albeit being another film adaptation of Frank Herbert's book. We may have seen this story depicted on screen before, but with Villeneuve at the helm, I really think he's going to craft something special and make a visually explosive and thought-provoking sci-fi movie that will get us all talking.

Christopher Nolan is probably tied for me as being my favorite director of all time along with Steven Spielberg. Not only does Nolan make beautiful looking films, but the way he crafts the narratives of each story that makes you think differently about how movies can be made is spectacular in this day and age. Every Nolan film I've seen has left an impression on me because of how his storytelling is taken to the next level and I love that a majority of his films play with time, which also gives them replay value. With Tenet I do know there are some time-traveling elements to it and even though the trailers don't really reveal too much about the story, I'm all in to delve towards the mystery and probably be knocked off my seat once I finally see how the story all unravels. This will be a must-see in IMAX 70MM and a feast for the eyes.

So there you have it! I mean sure this year doesn't have a Rise of Skywalker or Avengers Endgame level of films releasing this year, but I think with the films we're getting it's going to be a very fun year for film. There is a lot I still REALLY want to see that I didn't include on this list, but these were the 10 I am the most excited to see. It should be another fun year in the books and I hope all of you have a fun time at the movies.

IS IT FAIR TO BE DONE WITH A FRANCHISE?

Have you ever had something you love that you felt so connected to? A movie, a show, a sport, a video game, a hobby? You’ll ride or die for it, no matter what it is? No matter the setbacks, if there are even tiny things about it you don’t like? For me, I’ve always had a heart for movies and cartoons, which evolved into my love of art, entertainment, and pop culture. I love that this is a society where there is so much amazing content to enjoy and a variety of it that can appeal to the different tastes we have. For those of you who don’t know the things I’m obsessed with, that isn’t just in the broad world of entertainment and pop culture I’ll basically narrow them down to being The Beatles, superheroes, fantasy stories, and of course Star Wars. There are definitely other individual movies, TV shows, and comics I’m obsessed with, but it would be a really long editorial if we fell down that rabbit hole. If you want to get to an idea of who I am as a person, those four things I mentione

THE FUTURE OF STAR WARS

I think it's obvious for me to say that no matter what Star Wars content is coming out and when it will be released, I'll always be excited and on board to check it out. The universe of Star Wars is so vast and I love that there is always some sort of story to tell through film, TV, video games, novels, and comic books. So on the artistic end, we know the talented team over at Lucasfilm working in their respective mediums will deliver and give us thought-provoking content to make us rethink the saga and challenge the way we think about it. The business side of it is where the debates can start because I know that there will always be some form of Star Wars to look forward to, but how they are handling releasing all this new content and how they've done it so far has raised questions for all sorts of fans, myself included. Today, I wanted to take a deep dive into how they've developed their content so far and what this all means for the future of Star Wars and where we
